JOHN MANNING - THE BOSTON CHIEF
The "Can-Do" Guy!
RETIRED AUGUST 31, 2007 - GOOD LUCK HANDSOME!
When all hell breaks loose and you need a real railroadman in your corner to help get you out of a jam, John Manning, The Boston Chief is the guy we call.
While the "all stars" are out there patting each other on the back for a job not very well done, and nominating each other for the President's Achievement Awards, it's John Manning who takes the raging railroad bull buy the horns and finds ways to keep the railroad running no matter what.
"Mr. Dependable" or " The Man" is what he is commonly referred to.
"Working Man's Railroader" is another appropriate title. Because if you're a railroader and you actually work for a living, you'll know how valuable a guy like John Manning is to your sanity and to the railroad's survival.
Railroaders, whether they be his fellow Train Dispatchers or Conductors or Engineers or Track Foremen, etc., know that when you turn to John Manning for help, help is what you get. No excuses. No cop outs. None of this "let me get back to you" crap that you hear from people who are supposedly paid for their "leadership" and decision making skills.
Who do they turn to? John Manning.
All be thankful for the likes of John Manning because if it weren't for railroaders such as he, this "railroad" would have been converted to a bike path long ago.

"Men make history, and not the
other way around. In periods where there is no leadership, society stands still.
Progress occurs when courageous, skillful leaders seize the opportunity to
change things for the better. "
Harry S Truman (1884 - 1972)
