Boston Locomotive Engineer Joe "B" Burgess

It's fitting that we start of this new feature with a tribute to one of the nicest guys the railroad has ever been lucky enough to know, Boston Locomotive Engineer and just plain great guy Joe "B" Burgess. Joe is one of those good guys who always seems to maintain a very low profile, but is always ready and willing to offer help to someone in need.

After working his way from the "D&H" to the "B&M" to Amtrak, Joe "B" has settled in as a "Shore Line" Engineer...And a great Engineer indeed!

His years of involvement with Operation Redblock led him out to the darkness of the railroad night, during the most ungodly of hours, looking to save a fellow railroader who was in trouble. Unlike many of the fakers involved in Redblock, Joe "B" never even dropped a hint about his sacrifice and silent efforts, all for the good of his fellow railroaders. Joe just honestly cares about his friends and coworkers.

Joe has always been a true gentleman. A cordial, friendly, polite, good spirited guy who always seems to find a way to get the job done and keep people happy..

Joe is the salt of the railroad earth.
